The File Manager Finally Got Its Tree
Tuesday, May 5, 2026
What Shipped
The file manager now displays all files and folders in a hierarchical tree structure. You can expand and collapse folders to see nested content at a glance. Drag-and-drop assets between folders is now native. The upload and folder-create buttons have been consolidated into a single Create or upload option in the left sidebar.
Why HubSpot Shipped This
The file manager has historically been one of the easiest places in HubSpot to accumulate clutter. Multiple versions of the same logo. Four iterations of the same email footer scattered across deep folder structures. A real folder tree makes it much harder to lose things and much easier to clean things up systematically.
This also signals where HubSpot is heading: toward a real digital asset management surface inside the platform. The more organized your assets are, the more usable they become for AI workflows that need to find them.
How to Set It Up
The tree view is auto-enabled in the public beta. Navigate to Files & Templates → Files. The tree view is live in the left rail. Expand folders to see nested content, collapse to hide. Drag assets between folders using native drag-and-drop.
What This Touches
This affects how digital asset management works across your portal. Marketing teams managing brand assets. Content teams organizing email templates and web imagery. Anyone running AI image-generation workflows that need to discover and reference assets from a library.
Who Should Care Most
• Content teams with messy asset libraries
• Brand managers enforcing asset governance
• Marketing operators managing file organization
• Anyone running AI image-gen workflows that need to find assets
The Take
Casey Hawkins
Casey called this her nerdy moment of the day, and she earned it.
The old experience made navigating out of a folder genuinely frustrating. You'd drill down three or four levels to find one file, then have to click back multiple times to return. The new tree fixes that in the most obvious way possible — you can see the full folder structure and click directly where you want to go.
The signal in this update: HubSpot is building a real DAM surface, and the more organized your assets are, the more usable they are for AI workflows that need to find them. This isn't just better UX. It's a foundation for AI integration.
