Personalized Navigation

What it is
Each user gets a streamlined navigation tailored to their own use cases and can customize it: add their own groupings, reorder items, and add or remove tools. The announcement notes that admin-customizable navigation for teammates is a separate, upcoming beta. Public beta, all hubs and tiers, flagged as a major update.
Why it matters
The current navigation carries more than eighty items and is the same for everyone, so finding the handful of tools a given person uses is harder than it should be. Letting each user trim and group their own menu shortens onboarding and daily use, and it changes what an admin or consultant can learn from looking at someone's portal.
The Take
Madelyn's read is that this depends on the client. For someone brand new to HubSpot you want to be careful, because they can overwhelm themselves by accident. For a comfortable user who knows which objects and tools they use and which they never touch, being able to remove things from their immediate view is a real help: they get to the thing they need without wading through the rest. Her next question is permissions. Users who add properties to their own record views already confuse teammates who cannot see the same card, and a personal navigation can do the same thing at a larger scale, so watch how the admin beta lands alongside this one.
Chris has a longer grudge. A lot of data model decisions got made because the navigation was bad: that should be a pipeline, not a custom object, but a custom object goes on the nav and then people know what to click. He looks forward to losing fewer of those debates. The announcement still needs reading carefully, though. Users get a streamlined navigation tailored to their use cases, and somebody has to do the tailoring; it is not clear yet whether there is a suggested version first or just leads, deals and contacts. If you consult, coach or train on HubSpot, add this to your audit list. Someone's navigation can laser-focus you on what they actually use, and it can also hide the thing they should be using, because it was manufactured by them or by whoever built the portal before.
FAQ
Can an admin set the navigation for the whole team?
Not with this beta. This one is per user. The announcement points admins who want to customize navigation for teammates to a separate, upcoming admin-customizable navigation beta.
Does it come with a suggested layout?
The announcement says users get a streamlined navigation tailored to their use cases, but the show could not confirm whether that means a suggested starting layout or the standard leads, deals and contacts set. Somebody has to do the tailoring either way.
Who gets it?
Public beta across all hubs and tiers.
