Payment Links API

What it is
Developers and partners can now create, retrieve, update, and manage HubSpot payment links through a public API. The API handles dynamic configuration, including items, add-ons, buyer email, billing and shipping address, and custom fields, packaged into a single request that puts the right payment link in front of the buyer. This has moved into public beta, and the release now points to developer documentation, which is the piece that makes it usable in practice.
Why it matters
This brings HubSpot up to the level of most B2B commerce setups, where you cannot spec every order in advance but you still want a real shopping-cart experience. The catch is the one that always comes with commerce automation: it only works as well as your data. If your product library and pricing are not in good shape, an API that generates payment links on the fly will surface that fast. Most teams have some groundwork to do before this pays off, and that is not a reason to avoid it, just a reason to look at your product and pricing data first. We spent our longest conversation of that release window on this API back in May, and you can hear where we landed in our May 19 recap discussion of the Payment Links API.
