Revenue HubFreeStarterProfessionalEnterprisePrivate beta

What it is

When a buyer completes a payment through a HubSpot payment link, HubSpot automatically creates a contract and generates invoices through the contract billing schedule, with no manual work. Private beta, all hubs and tiers. Not supported in beta: order-level adjustments (tax, fee, discount), discount codes, Buy Now Pay Later (Affirm, Klarna) and digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay).

Why it matters

If you use payment links to collect recurring or subscription revenue, there was no way to automatically create and track the underlying contract in HubSpot. Now the contract is created at the moment of purchase, payment link transactions connect to HubSpot's contract and billing objects, and invoice billing workflows start right after purchase.

The Take

Chris Carolan

This is one you are probably surprised was not a thing already. A payment link purchase now creates the contract and starts the invoices on the contract's billing schedule, with no manual step. Read the limitations before you plan around it, because the list is long for a beta: no order level adjustments like tax, fees or discounts, no discount codes, no buy now pay later with Affirm or Klarna, and no Apple Pay or Google Pay. You also have to join the direct create, edit and renew HubSpot contracts beta before this one.

The interesting part, as Joshua Oakes pointed out, is at the bottom of the update: all hubs and tiers. There is a lot of nuance across invoices, payment links, contracts and Revenue Hub, and it is hard to get a thorough picture of when a Revenue Hub seat is needed. What I keep being told is that it usually comes down to whether you are using the quote and contract editor. If you are not, the contract is a first-class record in the data model, a place to put your revenue data. Payment links and HubSpot payments carry their fees, but that is separate from needing a seat.

We did not settle the seat question on the show, including whether you can edit a contract without one. CPQ land is not easy to describe, which is exactly why I am planning an in-person Houston HUG workshop on CPQ and Revenue Hub in November.
