Deal Routing Workflows now support distribution and user availability

What it is
When using the Rotate record to owner action in a deal-based workflow, you can now choose a distribution model — Round Robin, Balanced, or Random — and configure user availability for deal assignment.
Why it matters
The Rotate record to owner action for Deals did not support the distribution controls already available on other objects, so teams worked around it with manual processes, custom-coded actions, or third-party tools. Now deals can be distributed evenly, routed to the rep with the lightest load, assigned randomly, and skipped past unavailable users so they do not land in an unworked queue.
The Take
Chris Carolan
If you're familiar with the help desk and service ticket situation, this is the next version of that for sales.
Round robin, balanced and random are the standard three. If you were hoping for an uneven split — sixty forty, say — this is not that, and I am not sure I have ever been on or next to a team that would enjoy any of these four bullets when compensation is on the table. It matters less than it sounds, because HubSpot has five ways to do everything and you could already get there another way.
The half that is actually interesting is availability. Once you are assigning to specific users and teams, the people become part of the data model — the user object and the teams they sit on. Most of us have been doing crazy things in workflows to route around that, especially where the sales channel sits outside the organization and is never going to be in HubSpot, and the split runs on states, regions, sometimes zip code.
So the real question is whether the team that needs this has done the work to put users on teams in a way that makes it fire. If you know the help desk and service ticket routing, this is that, arriving for sales.
