Mobile Offline Read-only Mode

What it is
HubSpot mobile users can now access key CRM information when they lose their internet connection. With Offline Mode enabled, the mobile app caches the user's most recently viewed contacts, companies, deals and tickets (up to fifty per object), along with the three most recent calls, emails or meetings on each and the next five open tasks, so reps can keep reviewing customer information while offline. Read only in this release; HIPAA enabled portals are excluded. Public beta on iOS and Android with paid subscriptions.
Why it matters
Field sales and service reps often work where connectivity is limited or unavailable: construction sites, hospitals, rural locations, warehouses, customer premises. Losing connectivity used to mean losing access to the CRM, so a rep could not review a contact's history, check a deal's status or prepare for a conversation. Offline read-only mode keeps that information in their hands on site.
The Take
We built a custom portal for a field services company, traffic management work, and offline was not a nice to have for them, it was a requirement we had to support, so I read this one with some interest. HubSpot is being very clear that this release is read only, and that matters, because the reading part is the easy half. The hard half is what has to sit next to it: a rep updates a record on site with no signal, that change gets saved locally, and when the connection comes back everything has to be batched and pushed up without clobbering what happened in the meantime. That is the piece I would watch for next, because once writes are possible offline the mobile app has a very different future, and you start asking whether UI extensions and custom mobile interfaces come into this space too.
Who this is for is pretty specific. It is an enterprise solve, industrial manufacturing especially, because when a rep walks into a facility the connectivity gets blocked for lots of reasons, sometimes on purpose, and sales reps have to be very agile in those situations, so a lot gets built for them to be able to go on site and do their work. Fifty cached records per object across contacts, companies, deals and tickets, the last three engagements and the next five open tasks is enough to walk in prepared. Chris's question on the show was whether Breeze on your phone gets to see this cache when you drop offline, and if you are used to talking through a deal on the way into a building, that is the question to ask HubSpot. HIPAA enabled portals are excluded in this release, so if that is you, this is not yours yet.
