Trigger Workflows When a Social Post Is Published

What it is

You can now trigger a HubSpot workflow automatically when a social post is published, connecting social publishing to the rest of HubSpot automation the same way email, forms, and deals already are. The most common use case: send a Slack notification to a team channel when a post goes live so employees can engage, reshare, and comment.

Why it matters

Until now, there was no way to connect social publishing to the rest of your HubSpot automation. Beyond employee advocacy, HubSpot names cross-channel coordination (triggering follow-up actions in other channels when a post goes live) and stakeholder visibility (alerting stakeholders when scheduled content publishes) as common use cases.

The Take

Put an agent step in front of the Slack alert so it reads the post and gives contextual recommendations — otherwise you're just adding noise to a channel that's already noisy.

My first reaction reading the title was "why do we need a workflow for this" — but the use cases HubSpot names are real, and once you're past being a single person checking your own notifications tab, you need something to scale that awareness to a whole team.

Where I'd actually build it: put an agent step in front of the Slack alert. Post goes live, an agent reads it, and drops contextual, dynamic recommendations into the channel — not just "we posted this," but "here's how to engage with it." Do that and you get real, actionable Slack activity instead of another box to check that annoys the admin.

Chris's pushback on air is fair and worth sitting with: the more you automate the announcement, the less you're actually present for the conversation that follows. If someone comments and nobody responds because the team assumed the workflow "handled it," you've turned a positive into a negative. This update should make your team more present in the moment it fires — not an excuse to be less present.

FAQ

What actually triggers the workflow?

The publish event of a social post — the workflow fires the moment a scheduled or manually posted piece of content goes live, the same way a form submission or a deal-stage change triggers a workflow today.

Do I need this if I already have social notifications turned on?

Maybe not if you're a solo poster — HubSpot's own notification and alert settings already cover an individual. This is for scaling that awareness to a team once one person's notifications tab can't cover it anymore.

Can this trigger off engagement — likes or comments — instead of just the publish event?

No. As discussed on air, that would require a contact-level trigger, and HubSpot has no way to know an anonymous LinkedIn commenter is a contact in your CRM. This fires on the publish event only.

What's the real risk in setting this up?

Turning a "here's what we just posted" Slack ping into noise nobody reads. Pair it with real content — an agent step that summarizes the post and suggests a response — rather than shipping a bare "post published" notification.
