Revenue HubProfessionalPublic beta

What it is

Merchants can now migrate active billing contracts from a legacy system into HubSpot Revenue Hub contracts, preserving the original contract effective date and controlling when HubSpot begins billing. With Revenue Hub powering automated billing through contracts, this is the on-ramp for anyone moving their billing in. This is in private beta for Revenue Hub Professional and Enterprise.

Why it matters

Moving billing between systems is high-stakes precisely because the failure modes are double-charging customers and breaking the historical continuity that finance and RevOps reporting depend on. Preserving effective dates and controlling the billing start date is how you migrate without either of those happening. For teams adopting Revenue Hub billing, this turns a risky cutover into a controlled one.

The Take

It's not just deals. That's not what deals are designed to do. Deals are designed for sales process.
Chris Carolan

The migration path is the news, but it is not the reason to care. The reason to care is that contracts finally put post-sale revenue in the same system as everything else.

If you have only ever reported revenue off deals, this is the moment to notice that you have been asking deals to do a job they were never designed for. Deals are a sales process. They tell you what was sold. They do not tell you what was booked, what is committed, or how that changed through an expansion, a contraction or a renewal. That is what contracts are for, and it only works if you use the objects around them rather than treating this as moving records from one box to another.

The payoff is bigger than finance. Once real revenue events live in the system, marketers can finally tie their work to them and tell the complete attribution story. That has been the missing half of the picture for years.

Two cautions. You cannot flip a switch: if your infrastructure is built on deal-based revenue reporting, subscription migration is a start and the rest is a plan, not an afternoon. And contracts are not for everyone. If your subscriptions are simple, one-off, business-to-consumer, with no large relationship to manage, you may not need them at all.
