Pipelines: Create, clone, and update directly with Breeze Assistant

What it is

Breeze Assistant can now create and update pipelines from anywhere in HubSpot. It can create or clone a pipeline for any object type and rename it; add, update and remove stages; and change stage names, colors, status, probabilities and whether stage calculated properties are on. It cannot create or update pipeline rules, object tags or automations, and it cannot change contact or company lifecycle stages.

Why it matters

Until now these changes were made by hand in Settings, under Pipelines. HubSpot's pitch is that they can now be made in context, wherever someone is working with an object's pipeline.

The Take

Zach Hussion

I don't like this one. I don't like it one bit.
— Zach Hussion

Zach Hussion did not like this one, and said so on air: it was his least favorite update of the day. His reason is not that the feature is broken. It is that pipeline design is one of the places in HubSpot that should stay deliberate for most people. Stages and their settings have big implications for how the whole portal works, and planning and mapping the process before you build is a step you cannot skip. When creating a pipeline is one sentence to Breeze, it becomes almost too easy to ask for one without thinking about what it means. You can do it. Should you?

Chris Carolan's read went to one word in the announcement: users. It is highly unlikely you want any everyday user doing this, ever. Change that word to admins, and mean the person who owns the system, not whoever happens to hold super admin, and it is a step in the right direction. The other word is contextually. If someone starts a Breeze conversation from the data model overview page and the conversation is about data modeling, this should be easy. If the conversation is "why can't we get our sales team to do this, I think we need eight more stages," the better future is a Breeze that says hold on, that is a terrible reason to add stages, come back with your process and we will talk about it.

Zach's worry about that future is the human part of the job. A consultant can say this is a critical step and we will not skip it, and walk away if the client insists. His example was a sales process that puts lead qualification in the first three deal stages when it belongs on the lead object. AI is far more likely to just say yes.

Who should act: whoever owns your CRM. The guardrails HubSpot already put on this (no pipeline rules, object tags, automations or lifecycle stages) help. Decide who in your portal should be asking Breeze to change pipelines, and keep the process mapping first.
