Smart CRM

Associations, property history, dashboards and duplicate records — the everyday CRM mechanics the show covers as HubSpot rebuilds them, one gap at a time.

What we think

This year's Smart CRM releases repair the plumbing operators have spent years quietly working around — and each fix hands someone a new decision about trust nobody has made yet.

The show's accumulated read on this year's Smart CRM releases is that most of them are not new capability so much as HubSpot going back to repair plumbing operators have spent years quietly working around. Chris Carolan said it plainly about cross-object filtering: "The catch is on our side. If you hit that wall years ago and built your way around it with extra properties and record IDs scattered across records so you could find things, that workaround is working and it is not trivial to unwind." The same shape showed up on Primary ID Preservation, where Chris only discovered the old silent-ID-churn behavior by accident: "It wasn't until just really like less than a month ago that I did a merge using Claude through the MCP and Claude actually was like, just a heads up. Now these records have different IDs. And I was like, I'm sorry, what?" On Property History, Casey Hawkins named the payoff directly — restoring a record without leaving the view means "you're not just shipping a UI update — you're removing a reason people avoid owning their own data in the first place" — and on the companion Single Property Revert update she named the cost that comes with it: one-click restore "also means your audit trail now has a new kind of entry to explain: a human reverting a human." That is the throughline across this Hub: HubSpot is closing gaps that made people avoid the CRM directly, but every fix hands somebody a decision they have not necessarily made. On customer agent's new knowledge-generation feature, Chris put it as plainly as it gets — "Every one of these agents now ships with a human approval step, and almost nobody has decided who that human is" — and the mobile conditional-property-logic updates showed the same gap from the other direction: the rules you build into HubSpot do not yet reach every place a record gets edited. As Casey put it, "AI doesn't really care about your rules" — "if Claude wants to update a deal type that you have gated with required properties, it will just set the deal type and stop."

Why this is hard

Every fix in this wave assumes something about you that might not be true yet: that you understand your own data model, that someone in your org owns the new decision it hands you, and that AI editing your records respects rules you built for humans.

  • Cross-object filtering, restore and duplicate handling only pay off if you understand your own data model — and the workarounds you built years ago (extra properties, scattered record IDs, export-then-reimport chains) are not trivial to unwind even once the platform stops needing them.
  • Every guardrail fix hands someone a new decision nobody has necessarily made — who gets to click revert, who reviews what an agent drafted from your ticket history — and most portals have not decided who that person is.
  • The rules you configured are not enforced everywhere yet, and an AI agent or integration does not wait for you to catch up: it can still edit a record straight past a rule you gated with required properties.
Where are you coming from?
