Data Hub

Duplicates, merges, warehouse syncs and data exports in HubSpot — what shipped, whether it touches your portal, and what we think of it.

What we think

Getting data into HubSpot was never the hard part — trusting it once it's there is what this year's Data Hub releases are actually about.

Four of this Hub's own takes this year point at the same fault line. Multi-object imports still make admins build their own workaround — import to get record IDs, export them back out, then use those IDs to reassociate everything — because you only learn an import will fail once you're most of the way through it. Merge Rules finally gives HubSpot a real criterion for which record survives a merge, but "winning" stops meaning anything the day you need one field back from the record you just buried. Warehouse-to-CRM syncs used to charge the same credits whether you were transforming data or just handing sales a straight read; drawing the line at transformation, not movement, was the actual fix. And the real headline on S3 export was never that it existed — it's that you can finally watch it run, instead of hoping a fragile script did its job overnight.

That's the reassurance every one of these takes is circling. Getting data into HubSpot was never the hard part. Trusting it once it's there is.

Why this is hard

Nobody argues that clean, trustworthy data matters. The fight is over who is on the hook for making it true, and Data Hub is where that argument turns into a checkbox nobody wants to own.

  • HubSpot's own release dates are mostly blank on this Hub — only one of the updates the show has covered carries a shipped-on date, so knowing whether a feature is actually live yet is a real question even inside HubSpot's own admin data.
  • The import workaround every admin eventually builds — import to get record IDs, export them back out, reassociate everything — exists because you only find out a bulk import will fail once you're most of the way through it.
  • Winning a merge is not permanent. The moment you need one field back from the record HubSpot buried, the label stops describing what's actually happening.
